How does it work?
Many cities around Russia, Europe, Asia and between have no direct train routes. For instance, there are no direct trains for such destinations as Saint-Petersburg – Berlin or Kazan-Paris. Our searching system will automatically find the best routes between the destinations with the stops. For the routes between Russia and foreign countries, most of the stops are in Moscow, for domestic destinations stops may vary upon the route.

Russian record for a regular long-distance train
On 14 August 2015, double-decker train No. 46/45 Moscow - Voronezh set a Russian record for a regular long-distance train with the largest number of seats travelling all the year round. Russian railways do not have another train which can handle 1,320 passengers.
The launch of the double-decker Moscow — Voronezh train became a new stage in the implementation of the Daily Express program on July 31, 2015. The train is made up of wagons with 1st- and 2nd-class seats; compartments in 1st-class wagons are equipped with double occupancy.
The route includes stops at Ryazan, and Michurinsk, and Gryazi Voronezhsky stations. The two-story Moscow — Voronezh train is the fastest train on this route: travel time is 6 hours 35 minutes. It is planned to further reduce time in transit.
Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod high-speed train Strizh
Moscow — Nizhny Novgorod high-speed train Strizh carried more than 79000 passengers in the first month of service.
Strizh trains began running on the 1st of June 2015. Since July, the number of services was increased from 5 to 7 per day, with the maximum number running on Fridays.
Numerous Strizh trains stop at Vladimir, Kovrov and Dzerzhinsk stations, but there are also direct services. The minimum travel time is 3 hours 35 minutes.
The train includes cars with seating in 1st and 2nd class carriages, sleeping cars (VIP), a buffet car and a dining car. The carriages are equipped with air conditioning and environmentally friendly toilet units.
Tallinn-St.Petersburg-Moscow train

The Tallinn-St.Petersburg and Tallinn-Moscow train services, which were terminated in May due to decrease in passenger numbers, have been relaunched as a single Tallinn-St.Petersburg-Moscow route.
The journey from Tallinn to Moscow will last 18 hours, and a return leg 16 hours, both with a stopover in St. Petersburg.
The daily service from Tallinn leaves at 15:20 and arrives at St.Petersburg at 23:07 and at Moscow at 09:32.
The service from Moscow departs at 23:00 and arrives at Tallinn at 13:38 the next day.
The longest high-speed train in the world
A dual formation Sapsan train has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest high-speed train in the world. Built by Siemens, 20-car Russian gauge train, which already holds the record of being the fastest train on Russia’s national rail network, measured 500 metres and 78 centimetres. Russian Railways (RZD) began operating the dual formation Sapsan train in August in order to increase capacity on the Moscow-St. Petersburg route.
New trains between St. Petersburg and Petrozavodsk
On October 19, 2014 Russian Railways company has launched new luxury trains Lastochka connecting St. Petersburg and Petrozavodsk. Now you can enjoy speedy and comfortable journey to the capital of Karelia and visit Kizhi, an architectural complex included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Trains № 806/805, St. Petersburg — Petrozavodsk and № 805/806, Petrozavodsk — Saint Petersburg run on a daily basis.
Smoking ban on Russian trains
According to Russian Federation Federal Law, which comes into force on 1 June 2014, tobacco smoking is prohibited on long-distance trains and passenger platforms used exclusively for passengers boarding and alighting from suburban transport trains. The smoking ban does not apply to platforms used for passengers boarding and alighting from long-distance trains.
Since 1 June 2013, a ban has already existed on tobacco smoking on suburban railway transport, outdoors within fifteen meters of the entrances to railway stations and in railway stations themselves.
That is, smoking is only allowed at least 15 meters from entrances to railway stations.
In implementing measures to protect the health of citizens from exposure to tobacco smoke and the consequences of tobacco consumption, Russian Railways is working to inform passengers at stations and infrastructure facilities and on commuter and long-distance trains about the smoking bans imposed, in particular by visual displays about the bans on signs, banners, stickers and announcements.

Traveling by Russian Train
The most popular destination is Moscow to St. Petersburg/St. Petersburg to Moscow. This Railway runs between the two largest Russian cities and through four regions: Moscow, Tver, Novgorod and Leningrad.
There are 2 train types operating between the two Russian capitals – express and regular. It will take you about 5 hours to get from one city to another by express trains. Regular trains are designed to travel for long distance, some of them are faster than others. There are three types of carriages in regular trains: 1st (SV), 2nd (Kupe) and 3rd class (Platzkart). The 1st class has two beds in one enclosed room, the 2nd class includes 2 lower beds and 2 bunk beds in one enclosed room and the 3rd class has 4 beds in a non-enclosed area.

There are several famous trains running from Moscow to St. Petersburg. For example, the Red Arrow is the most popular train, which in Soviet times carried the Communist Party elite between Moscow and Leningrad (the former name of St. Petersburg). The Nikolaevsky Express is a special train with a very interesting retro design. On this train you can dive back into the times of the Russian Tsars. The train departs daily except Saturday.
Grand De Lux is the most luxury train operating between Moscow and St. Petersburg. This train has 1st, Premium, Grand and Grand De Lux class compartments. This train departs daily.
In Moscow, trains for St. Petersburg leave from Leningradsky Vokzal (Leningrad Railway Station) and in St. Petersburg, trains for Moscow leave from Moskovsky Vokzal (Moscow Railway Station).
